What is Marvel Mightys?

Marvel Mightys is VeVe's first strictly-digital Marvel line — chibi-styled 3D figures of Marvel characters with Upgrade-and-burn mechanics that don't exist in any other Marvel collecting format. If you collect Marvel Legends, Hot Toys, or Funko POPs, this is the digital wing of the same hobby, with a few mechanics worth knowing before you buy in.

Smellsfunn here — currently the second-largest holder of the Mighty Marvel Thor (see my live VeVe collection, now that VeVe profiles are publicly shareable as of May 21, 2026). I picked them up at heavy discount on the secondary market when the edition size was relatively low, then started burning the cheap copies to upgrade the keepers — the Upgrade system turns a static Thor into one that swings the hammer with lightning all over the place. This is the honest answer to "what are Marvel Mightys, are they still alive, and is it worth getting in?" from someone deep in the line.

Best for: Marvel fans who already collect physically — Marvel Legends 6", Hot Toys 1/6, Funko POPs, comics — and want to extend the habit into a VeVe-exclusive digital format. Skip if: the chibi aesthetic isn't for you (it's visually adjacent to Hot Toys' Cosbaby line; some collectors love it, some don't).

Marvel Mightys was the first Marvel sub-line VeVe ever created that's strictly digital from inception. The Captain America series launched August 14, 2021, and the line has expanded across the Marvel roster since. Below: how Mightys actually work in 2026 (drops, blind boxes, Upgrades, MCP), how a typical series is structured, and the open questions worth knowing about.

VeVe Digital Collectibles is the only official source for licensed Marvel Mightys. Marvel has shown structural support for the brand — promotional tie-ins at comic conventions, fan-club giveaways through the Marvel Insider program, and large-scale statue displays at Marvel-section booths during major industry events.

How Marvel Mightys actually work in 2026

The mechanics have evolved since the 2021 launch. Three things to know before you buy in:

Drops run on a waitlist plus auto-purchase system. High-interest Mightys drops still sell out instantly, but the floor is more level than the 2021–2023 era. You opt into the drop's waitlist, and if you're selected, the platform auto-purchases on your behalf. It's closer to buying concert tickets than fastest-finger. Master Collector Points (MCP) — VeVe's loyalty currency — raise your selection probability on contested drops, so the grind is now MCP accumulation plus waitlist opt-in, not haptic taps.

Some drops are Blind Box format. Luck-of-the-draw rarity AND mint number. A heavy in-app trading market spins up during box-open windows — collectors chasing the rarity they didn't pull, or completing sets they're close on. Blind boxes are where Variant-tier completists become trading-fluent.

Upgrades let you burn lower-tier pieces to power up keepers. This is the mechanic that makes Mightys structurally different from any other Marvel collecting format. Some Mightys (Thor among them) have been released with Upgrade options — burn a duplicate or lower-tier copy and you can convert your keeper into an animated action move. Thor swinging the hammer with lightning effects, for example. It rewards mint-hunting and patience: pick up cheap copies on the secondary market, burn them later to upgrade pieces you actually want.

These three mechanics — waitlist drops, blind boxes, Upgrade-and-burn — are why someone deep in Mightys sees the line differently from someone who watched it from a distance.

How a typical Marvel Mightys series works

Series share a structural pattern that holds across the line. Knowing the structure means you can read any current Mightys series page in the VeVe app without guessing.

Series size and theme. A typical series includes 5–7 characters, themed around a Marvel franchise, film, anniversary, or partnership event (Captain America, Fantastic Four, Spider-Man, Deadpool, Thor, Black Panther, Ant-Man, Eternals — the foundational nine launched 2021–2023 follow this pattern). Bigger franchise events sometimes get larger sets (the Eternals series ran ten characters at launch).

Edition tiers. Each character is released at a specific rarity tier — Common, Uncommon, Rare, Ultra-Rare, and Secret Rare — with edition sizes inversely proportional to rarity. Common tiers run in the thousands range; Secret Rares can be in the few hundreds or lower. The flagship character of a series is often Common (high mint count, accessible to most collectors); the villain or alternate-universe variant is often Ultra-Rare or Secret Rare.

Bonus and exclusive characters. Some series include unlockable bonus characters for collectors who complete the set by a specific date (Wakanda Forever shipped a bonus Black Panther for full-set holders; Quantumania shipped a bonus M.O.D.O.K.). Convention exclusives also exist (the Captain Carter Mighty Con was the first; Deadpool's Chimichanga Truck was the first vehicle).

Foundational series (2021–2023): Captain America, Fantastic Four, Captain Carter, Eternals, Spider-Man, Deadpool, Thor, Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania. The line has continued to expand across the Marvel roster since — see the VeVe app for current series count and rotation.

Open questions worth knowing about

The Marvel Mightys brand has sparked many fan theories due to its unique position within the Marvel collectible lineup. Here's where the open questions actually sit, with honest framing on what's confirmed and what's still open.

Will there be a Marvel Mightys game?

Fan theories have circulated since the launch of Marvel Mightys in August 2021 that the figures could be incorporated into a Web3 or app-based game where collectors play as the characters they own. The 2015 Marvel Mighty Heroes mobile game gets cited as a possible reference point.

The VeVe team has downplayed the idea, and gaming professionals within the VeVe space have noted that the current 3D assets weren't designed for gameplay. Some collectors think the NFT itself (rather than the 3D model) could be used to access tokens or gameplay in a future product. The idea continues to circulate, but nothing's been announced.

Will Marvel Mightys come in physical form?

A long-running fan theory: Marvel Mightys release as physical figures — vinyl toys, Funko-style POPs, or chibi-styled collectibles. The chibi aesthetic (Japanese-style characters with large eyes and heads) is popular in the toy market; notable parallels include the Disney Plus show Spidey and his Amazing Friends and Hot Toys Cosbaby figures.

Funko itself is a possible candidate. The company's recent investor materials have noted interest in scaling into digital and NFT product lines. In 2022, Funko acquired Mondo (which had VeVe-released collectibles before the acquisition); any future releases would hint at a relationship. Bob Iger sits on Funko's board after a 2022 investment group acquired a 25% stake, and Iger has been actively investing in Web3 and metaverse projects through Disney. Target — which sells Funko exclusives under the Marvel banner — was a partner alongside VeVe within the Marvel block at New York Comic Con. None of this confirms a physical Mighty release; it just describes a network where one would be plausible.

What about new drops and ongoing line health?

The Marvel Mightys collection has continued to expand across multiple series since the 2021–2023 foundation, with new drops added periodically and post-launch Upgrades layered onto existing pieces. The drop cadence and series count vary; check the VeVe app or VeVe's drop schedule channels for current rotation.

The honest framing on line health: Mightys is mid-cycle. The 2021–2023 launch wave was the energetic peak; the line has settled into a steadier rhythm since. The Upgrade mechanic adds a second life to existing pieces — even if a series doesn't get a new entry, your existing Mightys can evolve. That structural feature is what makes the line feel different from one that's simply paused.
